In early August, I happened upon this mind-blowing wall of found objects and recycled materials that had been whimsically transformed into a 45' mosaic art piece. I did not know anything about the artist, there were no visible identifiers I could see, so I took several photos and made a point to return.

I did just that on Saturday, August 18 and was thrilled to see and meet  mosaic artist and creator, Renee Howard and her team of volunteer installers. They were set-up on the sidewalk continuing to carefully secure each nut, penny and bolt, alongside colorful pieces of cut aluminum, mirrors, bottle glass, and odds and ends into a continuous swirling pattern. 

 


Many of the circular works remind me of chakra's as the flow of energy they create is very much alive. I had no idea she began this wall almost a year earlier! She is on schedule to complete it by Sept. 15 and then will be  hosting a celebratory christening on Sunday, September 16th.

If you are in the vicinity of Vanowen and Fair Street, this Sunday, Sept. 16th be sure to stop by as Renee is throwing a block party in honor of the neighbors and the exciting completion of this mosaic masterpiece, titled: "Heavy Metal Wall and Rock n' Roll Sidewalk"!
