I'm honored to share this review written by Los Angeles based, young-girl prodigy artist, Rosie One, for the first time ever (*backstory written by me).
Also included are related photographs taken by her when she was 8 years old, in April of 2012. Rosie is also a featured artist in "When She Rises" all details and links are below. Congratulations to you, Rosie!

I took this photo of Rosie One, who at the time was on "Official Press" business covering the "Urban Legends" Public Art Exhibition held in April of 2012, at the LA Mart and Design Center, located in Downtown Los Angeles. A major art exhibition sponsored in part by LA Art Machine/Vox Humana and many others. It was the first of its kind for L.A., and featured more than 60 public art artists from around the world, and chronicled a large portion of the history of  graffiti, muralism and other spray-paint works dating back to the early 1960's through 2012.

"Urban Legends" also included the first-ever Public Art Live Auction to be held in Los Angeles. The exhibition opening was attended by 1200+ people and included a press conference with a discussion between Judy Baca, Eriberto Oriol, Estria Miyashiro, Vyal One, Kent Twitchell and Jim Prigoff. Important to note, in 2012 murals were still considered illegal in the City of Angels. Thankfully, that mistake would be reversed the following fall.

Fast-forward to July of 2018...Rosie, the only daughter of my friends Erwin and Joann, is now a teenager and has already shown in numerous important art exhibitions. Her next art show will be featured during "WHEN SHE RISES", a 10-week intergenerational and intersectional knowledge exchange through art, opening Saturday, July 7th, 2018, with a global art market, public art, and programming (panel discussions, screenings, workshops.) Co-curated by artists, Too Fly (NY) and Erin Yoshi (L.A.). Rosie is the only featured youth artist in the exhibition.

Very important to acknowledge is the creative influence her parents provide, also important to mention: "Erwin is a Visual artist from Los Angeles, contributing photographic content to LATACO. com, SnapshotGalleria.com and other LA based websites." I was first introduced to Rosie in 2009 or 2010, at an art opening at the famed Known Gallery on Fairfax Ave., Fairfax District L.A.,-  a densely populated area, home to many people of the Jewish faith and a hugely popular worldwide destination for foodies, fashionistas, streetwear & hip-hop heads and world travelers.

That's the backstory, now, on to her review and related photos...

(For the record, the photos have not been altered at all, the text has been edited just a teeny bit.)

"First thing I saw was the gold flowers.

I like so many pieces, I want to say just two but I want to say more. I like the Can Love flowers. I like the Estria Battle and Cern and Abcnt. The speeches I heard brang a lot of history. These people really care about art.

I met so many artists like Vogue, Judy Baca.

Judy is the creator of the Great Wall of Los Angeles
and founder of S.P.A.R.C. where "When She Rises" is being held.

I knew Can Love and I saw him there. Vyal, Sands Oner even Defer. Mear One. Eriberto Oriol, I like his pictures.

*Very important to mention. In May of 2012, Defer accepted a City of Los Angeles proclamation in honor and on behalf of his friend and graffiti artist, Tempt One. From Wikipedia: "In 2003, Tempt was diagnosed with the degenerative nerve disorder ALS. Now fully paralyzed except for his eyes, Quan has been able to use the EyeWriter to continue his art." (Please click here to see the trailer on the Award-Winning documentary, "Getting Up" The Tempt One Story.)

I felt I should be there and I was there because there was a lot of history. It was nice, people got awards. The people that I met had worked there. I hope you like the pictures I took. There is my story of the night. A lot of people were surprised I had a press badge. I had a fun night, thank you Shawni." - Rosie Recinos

Dear Recinos family, It's an honor to share Rosie's review and to continue to support her as she embarks upon the her journey as a teenage artist. I look forward to seeing what she does in the next ten years.  Be sure to attend "When She Rises".

Peace,
